"Basic rapid fire marine unit. Weapon uses 1 energy per shot." - ingame description.

Standard Marines are the tier 1 unit for the Terrans. They are produced in the Barracks.

Veteran Marine and Elite Marine can be researched at the Tech Lab. Existing Standard Marines can be upgraded when in proximity of the barracks, or anywhere when Mobile Squad Training is researched in the Armory

Upgrades[]

The upgrades are researched at the Armory.

Upgrades that effect the Standard Marine are:

  • Overcharge: Allows the use of the Overcharge Ability, that doubles the attack speed for 5 seconds. Can be researched at the Armory.
  • Shattering Laser: Causes the Standard Marines Attack to split dealing 1 Damage to 2 nearby enemies. These Splits are effected by the Armory buff and Penetrating Laser. Can be researched at the Armory.
  • Deflective Shatter: Causes the splits, created by the Shattering Laser upgrade to deal as much Damage as the initial Attack. These Splits are not effected by Penetrating Lasers but are still effected by the Armory buff (3 for the standard Marine). Can be researched at the Armory.
  • Penetrating Laser: Increases the Standard Marines Damage by 1
  • Mobile Squad Training: Allow the Marine to Upgrade themselves to Veteran Marines anywhere on the map. Can be researched at the Armory.
  • Conservation L1: Increases the Energy effeciency of Standard Marines to 175% reducing the energy cost per attack from 1 to 0.6. Can be researched at the Armory.
  • Conservation L2: Increases the Energy effeciency of Standard Marines to 200% reducing the energy cost per attack from 0.6 to 0.4. Can be researched at the Armory.

Tips[]

The very first upgrade to prioritise is Shattering Laser without which you can very easily be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of units a Zerg player can send towards you. Next would be the Energy Conservation upgrade in order to be able to preserve energy for your Tech Lab or to allow you to spend more minerals on marines instead of generator upgrades.

Overcharge is mandatory as soon as you want to push and take down spines but generally unnecessary before that.
